Binh Thuan: Soon to become a National Energy Center

Binh Thuan prioritizes investment, exploitation, and thorough and effective use of renewable energy, new energy, and clean energy such as wind power, solar power and LNG gas power.

With the advantage of 192 km of long coastline from Da Chet cape bordering Ca Na (Ninh Thuan) to Binh Chau alluvial ground (Ba Ria – Vung Tau) and the whole year sunshine and wind, it will be a good condition to turn Binh Thuan into an energy center of whole country.

Over the pass years, Binh Thuan province has developed many attractive mechanisms and policies to attract resources for energy development. According to the National Electricity Development Plan for the period 2011-2020 with a vision to 2030 (Adjusted Power Planning VII and Power Planning VII), Binh Thuan is planned to invest in two large power centers, namely  the Vinh Tan Power Station (6.180MW), Son My Power Center (4.500MW) and the transmission system to release the capacity of power supplies in the area.

In order to develop energy sustainably and in the right direction, Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee has issued Plan No. 216-KH/TU on orientations for energy development to 2030, with a vision to 2045. The province sets a target in 2025, maximum capacity Pmax = 1.210MW, commercial electricity 5.000 million kWh; in 2030, maximum capacity Pmax = 1.621MW, commercial electricity 7.566 million kWh. By 2035, reaching the maximum capacity Pmax = 2.186MW, commercial electricity 10.964 million kWh.

In the near future, Binh Thuan province is expected to develop and increase the total capacity of power sources, including: coal power, LNG gas power, wind power, solar power, etc… to about 13,85GW by 2025. electricity reached about 68 billion kWh. In 2030, it will reach about 22,6GW, electricity output will reach about 106 billion kWh and by 2045 it will reach about 38,3GW, electricity output will reach about 164 billion kWh.

According to the leader of Binh Thuan province, the province will coordinate with central ministries and branches to consider adjusting the master plans and adjusting the economic development strategy in association with the development of local advantages in order to build the province become a national energy center, turning the energy sector into a spearhead economic sector, creating a new force for long-term and sustainable economic development. The goal is to provide enough energy to meet the goals of the province’s socio-economic development strategy by 2030. Binh Thuan prioritizes investment, exploitation, and thorough and effective use of renewable energy, new energy, and clean energy such as wind power, solar power and LNG gas power.

Recently, the Prime Minister has agreed to the policy and assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to study and put the Ke Ga LNG gas power project into the electricity development plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2045 (referred to as the Power Plan VIII). This is a very potential project of Binh Thuan province. The project includes a gas power plant and a floating port depot about 5 km from the coast on an area of about 2 km2 of sea surface.

The leader of Binh Thuan province said that the project will help Binh Thuan promote its strengths in socio-economic development, gradually turning Binh Thuan into a national energy center.

It is known that the gas and wind power development projects of Binh Thuan province will be generally balanced in the National Power Development Plan for the period 2021 – 2030, with a vision to 2035 (Power Master Plan VIII), which is expected to be submitted to the Government for approval.
